Do I Need Health Insurance?

  • For non-EU students:
    German public health insurance is mandatory. The International Office will organize insurance registration with German insurers AOK or TK after your arrival to Stuttgart. The costs vary between EUR 80,- to 90,- per month. Please note that you are responsible for insurance coverage from the day of your departure until the beginning of the semester at DHBW Stuttgart.


  • For EU students:
    EU-citizens need the European Health Insurance Card from their insurance company in their home country (EHIC). With this card they will go to the public health insurance in Stuttgart in order to get a “Versicherungsbescheinigung für die Einschreibung”. This certificate must be shown to the International Office.

Do I Need a Visa?

Non-European students seeking to study in Germany must have a student visa which can be obtained in the nearest German Embassy or Consulate.

How Much Money Do I Need Every Month?

  • Accommodation: monthly approx. EUR 250,- to 400,- (plus approx. EUR 400,- deposit including EUR 200,-- as a partial payment of the first month`s rent)
  • Semester transportation ticket: approx. EUR 200,-
  • Public health insurance: monthly approx. EUR 80,-
  • Personal expenses: variable

Will Somebody Pick Me up from the Airport?

If possible, someone will meet you at the airport (Stuttgart) and accompany you to your accommodation.
